Notable players continue to commit to 2024 event
The strength of the international player field continues to grow for the 2024 American Family Insurance Championship. Recent commitments include Steven Alker, Stephen Ames, first-timer Thomas Bjorn, Darren Clarke, Ernie Els, Miguel Angel Jimenz, Colin Montgomerie and Vijay Singh, among other notables.
The international competitors will play in this year’s AmFam Champ June 7-9 at University Ridge Golf Course. The players below join previously announced former tournament champions: 2023 defending champion and host Steve Stricker; Thongchai Jaidee (2022); two-time champion Jerry Kelly (2019 and 2021); and Kirk Triplett (2016); and Scott McCarron (2018).
Steven Alker, of New Zealand, has eight PGA TOUR Champions wins, including this year’s Mitsubishi Electric Championship. He is currently number one on the Charles Schwab Cup Money List.
Stephen Ames, of Canada, has four PGA TOUR wins is a two-time winner so far in 2024, capturing the Mitsubishi Electric Classic and the Chubb Classic. He has six other tournament wins. He currently ranks second on the money list
Thomas Bjorn, of Denmark, is a newcomer to the PGA TOUR Champions and is playing in his first AmFam Champ. In nine events played, he has earned two Top 5 finishes and two Top 10 finishes.He played three times on the European Ryder Cup team. His current ranking on the money list is 22nd.
Darren Clarke, of Northern Ireland, has four career wins, including the 2022 Senior Open Championship in Scotland. He also has three PGA TOUR victories. He played five times for the European Ryder Cup Team and was captain of the squad in 2016.
Ernie Els, of South Africa, returns to the field for the third time. He has three career wins on PGA TOUR Champions, the last being the Hoag Classic in 2023. Currently 21st on the money list, he has recorded 29 top five finishes. A former world No. 1 with 47 international wins and 19 career victories on the PGA TOUR, the four-time major winner was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011.
Miguel Angel Jimenez, of Spain, has earned 13 PGA TOUR Champions titles, including three in 2022, and has 93 Top Ten finishes. He holds 21 titles on the European Tour and played for the European Ryder Cup team four times. Jimenez returns to the AmFam Champ for the sixth time, where[MJM1] he finished second in 2021. He currently ranks 17th on the money list.
Colin Montgomerie has seven PGA TOUR Champions titles, including three majors, along with 42 international wins. A Scotland native and known to fans as “Monty,” he has played on eight European Ryder Cup teams, captaining the team in 2010. This year marks his seventh return to University Ridge for the AmFam Champ.
Vijay Singh is making his sixth appearance at the AmFam Champ this year. His 34 wins on thePGA TOUR include three major championships; the Masters (2000) and two PGA Championships (1998, 2004). A native of Fiji, he has five PGA TOUR Champions wins, the most recent being The Ally Challenge in 2023. His other wins include a major, the 2018 Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship, and the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2005, Singh has played on eight Presidents Cup teams.
More than 11 countries are represented at the AmFam Champ by international players. The 2024 final field will be announced Friday, May 31.
