The PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship raised $2,035,000 in 2025. The Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation continues to make an impact in our communities, distributing $21.78 million via 1,171 grants to charitable organizations since 2016. As the championship approaches its 10th year, we highlight one of those organizations and the important work they do.
Vera Court Neighborhood Center empowers Madison’s North Side community through inclusive, no-cost programming that helps kids, adults and families reach their full potential. With support from the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation, Vera Court has grown to serve more than 5,000 residents each year through year-round services and activities.
“Our main focus is being good neighbors,” said Richard Jones Jr., executive director at Vera Court Neighborhood Center. “We’re not here to be heroes in their stories. We’re here to journey with them in their stories. We’re focused on helping our neighbors sustain themselves.”
Keeping our community stronger
Since 1994, Vera Court has offered the Madison community programming focused on education, employment and well-being. Through its Family Resource Center, the organization provides essential services, often with bilingual Spanish and English staff, including:
- Monthly food pantries providing free produce, dairy items, canned goods, frozen meat and more.
- A family law clinic offering free attorney consultations. While legal representation is not provided, attendees can ask questions and complete paperwork.
- A community garden featuring 30 rental plots. Community members purchase seeds and plants, and can also harvest from shared fruit trees and bushes.
- English classes offered in partnership with the Literacy Network.
- Public access to a computer lab, copier, fax machines and phone each week, with staff available to assist.
Activities for all ages
Vera Court offers no-cost, year-round activities for kids through after-school programs and summer camps.
- Elementary Program: Serves students in first through fifth grade with tutoring, healthy meals, fitness activities and creative clubs.
- Middle School Program: Focuses on academics, life skills training, community leadership, civic engagement, and college and career readiness. Summer camp includes youth-led clubs, fitness activities, team-building and weekly field trips, plus tutoring and academic support to help prevent summer learning loss.
- High School Program: Provides academic support, ACT prep and connections to employment, internship and volunteer opportunities. During the summer, Vera Court offers job readiness training, resume writing, interview practice and connections to local employers.
Community impact, tenfold
The 2026 PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship marks the event’s 10th tournament. Each year, funds raised through the championship are donated back into the community through the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation.
Vera Court Neighborhood Center is among the organizations benefiting from that support as a grant recipient each of the 10 years, dating back to the inaugural AmFam Championship.
“The continued support allows us to consistently create space for our neighbors,” said Jones. “Ten years of support speaks very loudly to the belief that the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation has in the work that we’re doing, and we are very grateful.”
Grant funding supports Vera Court’s day-to-day operations, as well as helping provide meals and essential services at no cost to families, and sustaining programming for both adults and youth.
“The grant support is helping us continually do our work, and it gives us peace of mind knowing there are people who believe in the work we’re doing,” Jones said. “It’s great AmFam Champ supports our organization and partners with us in so many ways. We know the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation is a place to call on when we’re looking to grow community. We really appreciate the partnership.”
