Kingfish will open for Train at the June 7 event held at Breese Stevens Field in Madison
The 2024 American Family Insurance Championship concert opening act will be GRAMMY-winning guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Christone Ingram, better known as “Kingfish.” The concert on Friday, June 7, presented by Madison Media Partners, will once again be held at Breese Stevens Field, Madison, Wis., as a part of the PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship. As previously announced, Train will be the headliner.
The concert is part of the week-long American Family Insurance Championship activities beginning June 1, with tournament play June 7-9 at University Ridge Golf Course, featuring player/host and defending champion Steve Stricker.
Kingfish started out as a teenage YouTube sensation, and in the four short years since the release of his self-titled debut album, the Mississippi native has already made his mark as one of the best, and most exciting, blues guitarists and vocalists in the world. He’s been nominated for 10 Blues Music Awards (and won them all) and Rolling Stone has called Kingfish “one of the most exciting young guitarists in years, with a sound that encompasses B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and Prince.”
His first album debuted in the No. 1 position on the Billboard Blues Chart and stayed on the chart for 91 weeks, earning him a GRAMMY award nomination. His second album, “662” also debuted at No. 1, was universally applauded by critics and won the GRAMMY Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. His latest release, “Live in London,” recorded in June 2023 at The Garage in the UK, features an explosive live performance by the young blues prodigy.
Proceeds from the concert and championship are distributed by the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation to American Family Children’s Hospital and other local charities impacting families and children. Since 2016, the championship has raised more than $17 million, awarded through 847 charitable grants.
