Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation helps Family Service Madison provide care for local families

The PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship raised a record $2.4 million in 2023. The Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation continues to make an impact in our communities, distributing more than $17.2 million via grants to 847 charitable organizations since 2016. As we lead up to the 2024 event, we highlight one of the organizations and the important work they do.

Family Service Madison, a longstanding social service agency dedicated to serving the Madison community since 1910, receives continued support from the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation. The Foundation’s ongoing commitment to Family Service Madison underscores its dedication to improving the well-being of local families.

Through the years, Family Service Madison has adapted and evolved to meet the changing needs of the community, remaining steadfast in its mission to provide essential services and support to individuals and families. Through various programs and initiatives, they address a wide range of issues, from developmental disabilities to mental health challenges, trauma and substance abuse.

The recent grant from the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation has specifically supported the organization’s Steps to Success Day Treatment Program, a crucial mental health program for children aged 10 to 14 who are facing significant challenges in various aspects of their lives. This program provides intensive therapeutic interventions aimed at helping children function better at home, in school, and within their communities.

Emi Coffin, program coordinator for Steps to Success, emphasized the program’s focus on addressing trauma and supporting children in crisis. “We see kids who aren’t able to function in the classroom at all or have major issues at home,” said Coffin. “But with our intensive interventions and support, we witness significant positive changes in these children and their families.”

The grant has facilitated the expansion of program resources, including the installation of a climbing wall and the provision of trauma-informed training for the program team. President and CEO of Family Service Madison Kathy Schoff, expressed gratitude for the Foundation’s continued support, highlighting the impact of the grant on program sustainability and effectiveness.

“We’ve been fortunate to receive support from the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation for several years now,” said Schoff. “Their generosity has enabled us to enhance our programs and reach more families in need. The climbing wall and trauma training funded by the grant will further strengthen our ability to provide comprehensive care to children experiencing trauma.”

The collaboration between Family Service Madison and the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation exemplifies the power of community partnerships in addressing complex social issues and improving outcomes for vulnerable populations. Through their combined efforts, they continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local families.

Family Service Madison’s impact

  • “The ATA program is a fantastic program, helped me a lot. Teri and Marcus are great counselors.” – Brian, ATA Participant
  • “I was very hesitant about seeing a therapist, but this was an extremely helpful and eye-opening experience. I learned many helpful ways of coping and seeing things in a different light.” – Beth, EAP Client
  • “The intensive support provided by the Steps program allowed my son to make a complete turnaround at home, school and in the community.” – Sarah, Steps to Success Parent
  • “Our son has been absolutely thriving! This year he was able to verbalize his fears, make plans for how to handle problems that he thought might arise, and come to us with his fears and questions. He hasn’t missed any school, no migraines, is completing homework and chores independently nightly with no arguments and joined a club! There’s a connection that we are all forming with each other (at home) that was not there before our son worked with Steps and I don’t think we ever would have without Steps…Thank you again for everything that you did for our son and our family!”
