Former champions commit to 2024 AmFam Champ

Five of six former champions have committed to play in the 2024 PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship this June. They include 2023 defending champion and host Steve Stricker, Thonghai Jaidee (2022), two-time champion Jerry Kelly (2019, 2021), Scott McCarron (2018) and Kirk Triplett (2016). Fred Couples, the 2017 tournament champion, has not yet committed, but did play in the 2023 event. The 2024 AmFam Championship will be held June 7-9 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.

Stricker, of Madison, Wis., won last year’s title with a 3-under 69, his 55th consecutive round of par or better, to claim a five-stroke win at 18-under. Stricker is a 25-time PGA TOUR winner and has 17 PGA TOUR Champion wins. In 2021 he was the winning U.S. Ryder Cup champions captain and in 2022 was the recipient of the 2022 Ben Hogan Award from the Golf Writers Association of America. He had a prolific 2023 with four wins: Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS; Sanford Invitational; Regions Tradition; and The Ally Challenge. In addition, he was the 2023 Charles Schwab Cup Champion, and the recipient of the 2023 Jack Nicklaus Award (Champions Tour player of the year), Arnold Palmer Award (season money leader) and Byron Nelson Award (season scoring average leader).

Jerry Kelly has three PGA TOUR victories and 11 PGA TOUR Champion wins including three in 2022: Shaw Charity Classic; Kaulig Companies Championship; and Principal Charity Classic. He is also a two-time winner of the AmFam Champ – in 2019 and again in 2021. In 2019 he defeated Stricker and Retief Goosen in a playoff for the most exciting finish to date in AmFam Champ history.

Thonghai Jaidee, the 2022 winner, Scott McCarron, the 2018 champion and Kirk Triplett, the first event winner in 2016, have also entered the field. Jaidee has two PGA TOUR Champion victories, including the 2022 AmFam Champ, where he made history as the first golfer from Thailand to win a PGA TOUR event of any kind. McCarron has 11 PGA TOUR Champion career wins, including three in 2019 when he won his first Charles Schwab Cup Money title. Triplett has eight career wins on the tour, including two titles in 2019. McCarron and Triplett each have three victories on the PGA TOUR.

“I’m happy to have past AmFam Champ winners commit to this year’s tournament, and I look forward to the challenge of defending my title,” said Stricker. “Our field includes some of the best golfers on the PGA TOUR Champions and we all look forward to competing at a high level while putting on a great tournament for the fans. And the best part is knowing we’re raising millions for nonprofit organizations in our community doing meaningful work.”

Other winners on the PGA TOUR Champions so far in 2024 that have committed to the AmFam Champ include: Stephen Ames, Joe Durant and Ricardo Gonzalez.

The AmFam Champ raised a record $2.3 million for American Family Children’s Hospital and other charitable organizations in 2023, with a total of more than $17 million distributed via 843 grants to the American Family Children’s Hospital and other mostly local nonprofit organizations since 2016.
